Okay…humor me for a while here.
Let’s pretend your Fairy Godfather of Style (imagine Nick Wooster with angel wings) suddenly appeared and granted you one major style splurge. You get one piece to add to your current wardrobe and money isn’t an option. What would you choose?
How about a Saint Laurent Signature Motorcycle Jacket in Black Washed Leather? That may be my choice. You can’t go wrong with a statement piece like a classic leather jacket. This is a motorcycle jacket that should last a lifetime. In fact, I would wear it for the rest of my life because really what would be cooler than to be still wearing this jacket when I am in my 70’s. Definitely a life goal for me.
What about a custom made suit from Saville Row? This is where to go for a bespoke suit with fabric so luxurious and a fit that’s beyond perfect. How could you go wrong? Maybe something in navy that will allow you to wear it during the day or evening. I can’t imagine wearing something that would give you more confidence than this.
Maybe some Visvim Virgil Boots in dark indigo. These would instantly make you a menswear all-star. I imagine being out looking great in my Visvims and getting constantly hounded by streetwear bloggers trying to snap pictures of me like paparazzi. Not an easy life but I am sure I will get used to it…
How about something that you can hand down to your kids? Okay, this is a selfish exercise and you should not be thinking about others in this situation. We aren’t talking about saving for your kid’s education here. This is the Fairy Godfather of Style granting you one wish. I am talking about a watch that your kids will slide off your wrist at that exact moment when you take your last breath. I am not a watch nerd but I appreciate watches and I am amazed at all of the extremely high end pieces that are on the market. For arguments sake, let’s go with a Rolex Submariner. It may not be the flashiest but it is the one watch that will let you fit in if you are hanging out with rappers or old guys from the yacht club.
You know what? Forget the Rolex…if you have one wish then go all out and get the “Midnight Planetarium” watch by Van Cleef & Arpels. This piece of art lets you wear the universe at your wrist. The dial depicts a miniature reproduction of the Sun and the six planets visible to the naked eye: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Earth orbit the sun in real time. Those planets…all gems and gold and stuff. This is a $245,000 watch…bodyguard not included.
This is a really fun game to play and I could keep going on. These are merely a few suggestions. Please comment with your own ideas. The more ridiculous the better.
